Iain Miskimmin
Digital Transformation Engineer

Iain Miskimmin is a Digital Transformation Engineer with over two decades of experience advising governments, major projects, and infrastructure owners. For 12 years, he led the UK Government and Crossrail’s Digital Advancement Academy, training more than 15,000 professionals worldwide in BIM, Digital Twins, and information best practice.

He has delivered resilience analyses for councils and regions, mapping thousands of assets and dependencies to identify vulnerabilities and critical priorities. Iain also played a key role in the National Digital Twin Programme, shaping systems-thinking approaches to infrastructure interdependencies.

Alongside his consultancy career, Iain serves in the Royal Engineers, applying CARVER analysis and information-driven methods in both conflict and humanitarian environments. His work blends military precision with digital innovation, helping clients cut through complexity to build resilient, trusted, and future-ready infrastructure.

Timeline Highlights

  • Delivered Isle of Wight & Fylde region resilience analyses, mapping thousands of assets and tens of thousands of dependencies to prioritise critical infrastructure.

  • Directed the UK National Digital Twin Demonstrator (Isle of Wight), pioneering system-of-systems modelling for resilience.

  • Helped lead the COMIT construction innovations community for 20 years. changing the way the industry has evolved and continues to change in a digital age.

  • Founded and ran the Digital Advancement Academy for Crossrail, Bentley Systems & UK Government, educating 15,000+ professionals worldwide.

  • Authored two influential industry books: Plain Language BIM (2016) and Advancing Your Digital Strategy: 7 Questions of BIM (2019).

  • Served 30+ years in the army reserve, applying CARVER analysis to infrastructure and innovations in both conflict and humanitarian operations.
